Our creative process

Starts with the hand of the artist

In a time where digital has mostly replaced handmade, we believe in the power and beauty of the hand of the artist— in it’s imperfection and unique perspective. All our designs start as watercolor sketches, giving the final product its distinctive painterly feel.

Things get digital

The watercolor is scanned into the computer and receives a light digital touch before getting printed out on a transparency.

IN the darkroom

The screen is coated with a photo-sensitive emulsion, like old-school camera film, and is exposed with the transparency on a light table.

Washout

The screen is washed out with water, leaving a stencil. Once the screen is dry, it’s ready to print.

time to print

The screen is attached to the press and a sqeegee is used to pull the ink through the stencil. Then the towel goes through a conveyor dryer, which sets the ink.

putting the hand in handmade

Every towel is printed, folded and package by hand in our Austin, TX studio.
